Jun 4, 2026 at 7:38 AMThe Royal Schiphol Group, operator of Amsterdam Airport, and KLM have signed an agreement that includes the relocation of KLM’s cargo activities from Schiphol Centre to the cargo area on the other side of the Kaagbaan runway, as well as the relocation of catering activities to Schiphol North. This measure represents a significant step in the renewal of the airport and supports the implementation of the master plan for Schiphol Centre.
Long-term development of the airport
The master plan outlines the development of Schiphol over the next 25 years into a high-quality and more sustainable airport that aligns with its surroundings. The goal is to enhance the passenger experience, working conditions, and service for airlines. At the same time, Schiphol is working to reduce noise and further promote sustainability.
With the new agreement between Schiphol and KLM, three essential developments are enabled. First, space will be created for the future aircraft fleet by providing new parking areas for larger aircraft. Second, the development of the new South Terminal is facilitated, ensuring that Schiphol meets the growing demands of travelers. Finally, KLM and Schiphol are jointly investing in a strengthened air freight industry for the Netherlands.
Investments in the cargo sector
In line with strategic goals, Schiphol is also investing in the future of the cargo sector. The KLM buildings will be relocated to the newly developed cargo facility „Vracht 15“ in the southeast of Schiphol. A modern, centrally organized, and easily accessible cargo area will be created here, providing more space for efficiency, good working conditions, and sustainable solutions. The buildings of KLM Catering Services and Topside will also be relocated to new sites within Schiphol.
Next steps in the project
Following the signing of this agreement, Schiphol and KLM will initiate the next phase of the project. In the short term, the design phase for the new cargo building in the southeast of Schiphol will begin. The bidding process for architects is already underway. Additionally, several projects will be initiated to facilitate the relocation of activities, the development of Schiphol Centre, and the new cargo area.
