Jun 2, 2026 at 9:15 AMCanadian North announced the opening of its new cargo facility in Ottawa, Ontario, on May 20, 2026. This facility has been specifically designed to facilitate the transport of essential shipments through the airline’s extensive northern Canadian network. The new cargo facility is located at 145 Thad Johnson Private and represents a significant investment to expand capacity and meet the evolving needs of the communities served by Canadian North.
The airline plays a vital role in supplying remote and northern communities with food, medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, mail, and other essential goods in Nunavut and the Northwest Territories. The new, purpose-built cargo facility aims to enhance efficiency and improve the quality of life for residents of the North. Shelly De Caria, President and CEO of Canadian North, emphasized:
“We understand the responsibility we have to the people who rely on us. This new facility equips our team with the necessary tools, space, and capacity to ensure that critical cargo is transported reliably and safely across our network.”
The opening of the cargo facility was made possible through significant financial support from the Canadian government and Transport Canada. Under the National Trade Corridors Fund, an amount equivalent to USD 8.1 million has been provided to complement Canadian North’s investment in the project. This funding aims to generate positive economic effects by creating and sustaining high-quality jobs for Canadians. Additionally, it strengthens the role of air transportation as a cornerstone of national connectivity.
The new cargo facility consolidates previous pickup and drop-off operations in Ottawa at a single location. This is intended to improve efficiency, facilitate the implementation of enhanced shipment tracking capabilities, and provide the best possible support for the transport of vital goods in the North.
