FedEx modernizes largest station in East China
May 19, 2026 at 2:33 PMThe Swedish company SCA Logistics has announced that starting from October 1, 2026, it will redirect its RoRo ships (Roll on/Roll off), which transport trucks and pulp to Western and Central Europe, from Rotterdam to the port of Vlissingen. This decision is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to optimize the logistical flow to reduce emissions, improve cost efficiency, and strengthen competitiveness.
Previously, SCA had adjusted the RoRo traffic in Sweden to allow the ships to travel at slower speeds, resulting in a 40% reduction in emissions per transported ton and kilometer. With the new route to Vlissingen, this approach will continue. Magnus Svensson, Senior Vice President Sourcing & Logistics, explains: „This is a short and straightforward port call for our ships, which means we can save several hours per trip. This is another step towards making shipping more efficient and reducing emissions, which ultimately also improves our cost structure. We are confident that we can further enhance our already high delivery reliability.“
In addition to unloading trucks and pulp, SCA will also load recycled fibers, general cargo, and RoRo cargo to Sweden in Vlissingen. The company estimates that approximately 400,000 to 450,000 tons of goods will be handled in Vlissingen annually.
SCA’s logistics partner in Vlissingen will be Verbrugge, which has the largest center for paper pulp in Europe and extensive experience in handling trucks at the nearby terminals. Magnus Svensson emphasizes: „There are good transport connections by road and rail, as well as the possibility to combine inland vessels with other shippers to enable the use of larger and more cost-efficient inland vessels. We believe this offers us greater opportunities and makes the transport means more energy-efficient and thus more environmentally friendly.“
