May 5, 2026 at 11:30 AMThe Descartes Systems Group has found in its latest European transport management benchmark study that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly playing a central role in transport and logistics management. According to the study, which surveyed 300 decision-makers in the industry, 97 percent of European shippers and logistics service providers are using AI to transform their transport processes. This ranges from automated data entry to route optimization, as the company reports.
Financial success and AI
The study shows that financially successful companies are taking a leading role in the use of AI. Within this group, 61 percent use AI for automated data entry and 52 percent for freight forecasting. Particularly noteworthy, according to the Descartes Systems Group, is that market leaders also use AI more frequently for strategic applications, such as dynamic pricing optimization and ramp planning, with 39 percent of these companies employing corresponding technologies, according to the study.
Focus on automation and decision-making
The use of AI in the transport and logistics sector is currently primarily focused on automating processes and improving decision-making, as the study indicates. For instance, 41 percent of respondents reported using AI for automating data entry and processing unstructured data. Additionally, 37 percent use AI for route and load optimization, while 32 percent utilize it for load consolidation and capacity procurement. Furthermore, 29 percent of respondents use AI for freight forecasting.
