May 4, 2026 at 8:46 AMAs the Latin American & Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) announced on April 30, 2026, the international air freight traffic of its members reached a volume of 319,380 tons in February. This represents an increase of 3.1% compared to February 2025 and an improvement over the previous month. The three largest markets in the region remain Colombia, Brazil, and Mexico, which together account for nearly 60% of the total volume.
Growth in the Main Markets
Among the key markets, Argentina recorded the largest percentage growth at 15.6%. This increase was driven by traffic with the USA, which rose by 24.7%. Colombia followed with a growth of 9%, corresponding to an additional volume of 5,776 tons. Air freight traffic between Colombia and the USA amounted to 42,534 tons and grew by 6.1%. Peru also saw a growth of 7.5%.
Overall, North America accounted for 47.9% of the region’s international air freight volume. Europe made up 26.6%, while Latin America and the Caribbean accounted for 16.6%, and other regions such as Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa made up 9%.
Development in Brazil and Spain
In contrast to the positive developments in other countries, Brazil has experienced a decline in international freight traffic over the past seven months. In February, the volumes amounted to 66,823 tons, representing a decrease of 1.5% compared to the previous year. The main corridors with the USA, Portugal, Chile, and Germany also recorded declines.
However, air freight traffic between Latin America and the Caribbean and Spain grew by 10.5% year-on-year. Particularly strong increases were seen in traffic between Mexico and Spain at 20.9% and between Chile and Spain at 32%.
