Mecalux in the “Gartner Magic Quadrant” for the fifth time
Apr 30, 2026 at 9:59 AMCentralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK) has made a significant step in the development of the future transport hub in Poland. The company, which is implementing the comprehensive investment program Port Polska, has signed a contract with Przedsiębiorstwo Spółdzielcze Budoprojekt. This contract involves the creation of design documentation for the next phase of the Cargo Zone.
Progress in the cargo sector
The contract represents the second of three essential agreements that will shape the cargo infrastructure of the future airport. The Cargo 2 project aims to create a complex system of facilities and supporting infrastructure tailored to global logistics providers operating their own distribution networks. The goal is to establish an efficient and secure environment for handling courier and express deliveries to meet the growing global demand for air freight.
The contract is valued at approximately EUR 2.1 billion (gross). The project’s focus is on ensuring seamless and uninterrupted logistics processes while significantly reducing processing times for shipments. This will be achieved through the integration of warehousing, transshipment, and sorting functions in a unified layout.
Safety and efficiency in focus
A central concern of the project is safety. The design includes a strict separation and controlled access between the airside and landside areas to protect both cargo and personnel. The facilities for logistics providers will be strategically positioned at the interface between the airside and landside to enable direct and rapid transfer of goods between air and ground transport. This is crucial for modern global supply chains.
The planned buildings will function as high-speed transfer centers that minimize storage time and maximize throughput. Practically, this means that packages will be quickly transported from trucks to airplanes and back, with minimal delays. A dedicated sorting zone will be another key component of the project, designed to organize shipments quickly according to their destination. Flexible spatial and technological solutions will allow the system to adapt to fluctuating cargo volumes while ensuring both efficiency and scalability.
The first contract for the design of the Cargo Zone, which includes Cargo 1, was previously awarded to Cundall Polska. Given the scope and complexity of the investment, the design of the Cargo Zone has been divided into three separate packages, each addressing different functional and spatial requirements at the airport site.
According to the current investment timeline, the facilities of the Cargo Zone are expected to be operational by the end of 2031. This latest agreement underscores the accelerated pace of development at Centralny Port Komunikacyjny and reaffirms the commitment to position Poland as a significant player in the global logistics and aviation sector.
