Kühne+Nagel reports positive development in Q1/2026
Apr 24, 2026 at 11:09 AMThe Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) recently published the flight traffic statistics for the month of March. These show a decline in cargo volume compared to the previous year, but an increase in passenger numbers, as reported by the company.
Decline in cargo volume
In March 2026, cargo volume fell to 430,000 tons, representing a decrease of 4.4% compared to March 2025. The main reason for this decline, according to the company, is exports, which decreased by 14.9% year-on-year. Exports to the Middle East were particularly affected, dropping by 62.1% due to regional tensions. Despite this decline, imports and transshipments increased. Imports rose by 6.5%, while transshipments saw an increase of 19.5%. These developments helped to partially offset the decline in exports. Additionally, cargo traffic to and from Europe experienced growth.
In the first quarter of 2026, passenger traffic at HKIA exceeded 16.67 million. The number of flight movements reached 100,645, which corresponds to an increase of 14.3% in passengers and 4.9% in flight movements year-on-year. Cargo volume increased by 3.3% compared to the previous year, totaling 1.21 million tons.
