Record package volumes expected for Easter

The Deutsche Post and DHL expect a significant increase in package volumes during the Easter period this year. According to a forecast, up to 10.5 million packages will be processed nationwide in the postal and parcel network on the Tuesday after Easter, April 7. This represents a new record for the Easter season, as stated by Marc Hitschfeld, Operations Manager Post & Parcel Germany of the DHL Group.

Already at the beginning of calendar week 14, the package volumes show a noticeable increase according to DHL. On certain days, around 9 million shipments are currently recorded, which is above the average daily volume. The increase in package volumes is driven by numerous orders for Easter gifts and spring items. Hitschfeld explains that many consumers order gifts for children and decorative items in the lead-up to Easter. „We expect the biggest peak right after the holidays, as many consumers take advantage of their free time to shop online, and the garden and balcony season also picks up speed,“ says Hitschfeld.

In addition to classic packages, bulky goods such as lounge furniture and balcony solar power systems are also trending. According to their own statements, Deutsche Post and DHL have prepared for the expected increase in shipment volumes by planning personnel and capacities as proactively as possible.
