Mar 30, 2026 at 1:24 PMRoyal Air Maroc Cargo has begun the renovation and expansion of its temperature-controlled storage facilities at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca. After 13 years of operation, the capacity of the cold rooms will be increased to a total of five. These include three import chambers and two export chambers with a total area of 590 m². The new facilities are intended to meet the needs of the regional industry for perishable goods, such as fresh products and flowers, as well as the growing demand in the pharmaceutical sector.
According to Rita Chraibi, Vice President of Cargo at Royal Air Maroc, three essential factors play a role in the decision to invest in the cold facilities. „First, temperature-controlled facilities should be renovated every 15 years. Second, we are already seeing a steady increase in cargo volume due to our strategic fleet expansion. Third, we are experiencing rapid growth in the logistics of pharmaceutical products in Morocco and Africa, driven by improved healthcare infrastructures and rising demand,“ explains Chraibi.
Hicham Kharbach, Head of Cargo Operations, adds that the existing facilities have been regularly maintained and calibrated since the move in 2012. Nevertheless, it is clear that Royal Air Maroc Cargo needs larger storage chambers to meet the growing demands. Additionally, the new infrastructure will benefit from solar energy, which is expected to enhance the energy efficiency of the cold rooms.
Details on the new cold room configuration
The new arrangement of the cold rooms includes:
– An import chamber with temperatures of 2°–8°C and an area of 240 m²

– An export chamber with temperatures of 2°–8°C and an area of 140 m²
