Support for Syria’s maritime business
May 15, 2026 at 5:41 AMThe Italian logistics provider Fercam has added a fully electric tractor unit to its fleet in Serbia. Four such vehicles are already in operation at the company’s headquarters in Bolzano. In April 2026, the company was able to save over 3.5 tons of CO₂ equivalents through the use of the fully electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 for goods distribution in Serbia.
During a media day on May 12, 2026, in Belgrade, representatives from media, business associations, and academia had the opportunity to learn more about the innovative vehicle and participate in demonstration drives. The strong interest from the professional community confirmed that Fercam is acting in accordance with its motto, „We do not wait for change, we create it.“
Efficient transport solutions with lower emissions
Although environmentally friendly transport is not new in Serbia, companies have primarily used electric vans in their fleets so far. The Fercam truck, which can transport up to 24 tons of goods, represents a larger and more efficient alternative, as it replaces multiple vans and thus contributes to reducing traffic congestion. While an average delivery van transports between six and eight Euro pallets, the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 can carry up to 33 Euro pallets (120 x 80 cm) in a single trip, without generating direct CO₂ emissions during operation.
The electric truck is used by Fercam Serbia for distribution within Belgrade as well as on the Belgrade – Novi Sad – Belgrade route, covering around 10,000 km in April alone. Thanks to its fully electric drive, the vehicle produces no direct CO₂ emissions during operation, contributing to the reduction of local emissions on the routes traveled. Over the distance covered, an estimated saving of 3,640 kg of CO₂ equivalent was achieved compared to a diesel model of the same brand within a month.
The drivers specifically engaged for this vehicle report a noticeable difference in driving behavior compared to diesel models, particularly due to the stronger acceleration and nearly silent operation, which changes the driving experience. Before driving, they also received training on safety procedures, driving techniques, and the rules for handling the high-voltage system. The truck is charged at locations in Belgrade and Novi Sad.
Pioneering role in green logistics
In Serbia, the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 from Fercam is the first fully electric tractor unit to be registered as new. The company also emphasizes that it has previously introduced new generations of HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) into the transport processes to and from Serbia and is now significantly improving domestic transport as well.
Fercam is consistently implementing its green strategy into concrete steps. The purchase of the electric tractor unit is part of the broader „Emission Free“ project. In addition to significantly reducing emissions, the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 also contributes to reducing traffic noise, making it particularly suitable for urban environments. „This way, we provide our customers with the exceptional level of service they expect while simultaneously creating a healthier environment for the citizens of Serbia,“ emphasizes Marko Kambić, Managing Director of Fercam Serbia.
