Mar 27, 2026 at 9:35 AMPD Ports has unveiled plans for the Teesport Offshore Gateway, a deep-water offshore wind farm and assembly facility on the River Tees. This initiative is positioned as a site for the next phase of the UK offshore wind program, according to the company. PD Ports welcomes the Crown Estate’s announcement regarding the offshore auction of Round 6 as a step to support British offshore wind energy.
Strategic importance for offshore wind energy
The Teesport Offshore Gateway is regarded by the company as a natural landing point for the central North Sea license areas, which are expected to bring a capacity of 6 GW to market. These areas are located in close proximity to the River Tees. The planned facility is intended to provide the necessary deep-water access required for the assembly, manufacturing, and deployment of both fixed and floating offshore wind.
Economic modeling indicates, according to PD Ports, that the Teesport Offshore Gateway could add £270 million (GVA) to the local economy annually. Furthermore, the creation of more than 2,200 direct and indirect jobs is projected. The facility is planned to commence operations in 2028, subject to final investment decisions.
