May 15, 2026 at 10:11 AMAD Ports Group has announced the establishment of the first consortium for shipbuilders in the United Arab Emirates. This consortium aims to create a unified platform to consolidate national shipbuilding capacities and promote maritime innovation and growth in this sector.
The consortium brings together an initial group of national stakeholders from the fields of shipbuilding, steel production, marine engineering, and manufacturing. Members include AD Ports Group, SAFEEN Drydocks, Premier Marine Engineering Services, Dubai Shipbuilding & Engineering (DSBE), Al Seer Marine, Dutch Oriental, JOME Engineering, Saifee, Blue Gulf Ship Builders, and MBK Marine Industries.
Strengthening competitiveness in the maritime sector
Through collaboration within the consortium, visibility over project pipelines is expected to improve, enabling more efficient procurement. This supports coordinated implementation and enhances the delivery capability and competitiveness of the entire maritime value chain, including increased participation from locally based small and medium-sized shipyards.
The initiative is led by Noatum Maritime, a part of the maritime and shipping cluster of AD Ports Group. The goal is to strengthen coordination in the domestic maritime sector and provide small and medium-sized enterprises access to larger and more complex projects in both local and international markets.
Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, Managing Director and CEO of AD Ports Group, commented on the establishment of the consortium: “The establishment of the UAE’s first shipbuilder consortium reflects our commitment to advancing the industrial capabilities of the country in line with the vision of our leadership and the goals of economic diversification. By strengthening collaboration in the sector, we enable greater scaling, enhance competitiveness, and position the UAE to play a more significant role in global maritime trade and manufacturing.”
Noatum Maritime offers shipbuilding and repair capabilities in the UAE through SAFEEN Drydocks, a joint venture with Premier Marine Engineering Services. Internationally, SAFEEN Drydocks has expanded its shipbuilding presence by acquiring the Balenciaga shipyard in Spain, further strengthening its ability to support complex shipbuilding and manufacturing projects in global markets.
As the leading entity, Noatum Maritime is able to define the governance and commercial framework for the consortium and ensure that it aligns with the strategic goals of the UAE for industrial growth and economic diversification.
