Mar 25, 2026 at 10:27 AMThe majority of members of the Airforwarders Association (AfA) report operational disruptions related to the conflict in the Middle East. A recent survey shows that over three-quarters of respondents are facing various forms of disruptions. 29% of members indicate that they are significantly affected, while 38% report moderate impacts.
Brandon Fried (right), Executive Director of the AfA, commented on the survey results: “These data illustrate a sector under ongoing pressure from global events beyond its control. Disruptions, cost inflation, and uncertainties are exacerbating daily operational challenges.”
The survey also revealed that more than two-thirds of respondents are affected by rising costs. 27% report significant cost increases, while 41% indicate moderate increases. The most common issues include price fluctuations, flight cancellations, capacity shortages, and longer transit times. Additionally, members are facing increasing pressure in customer service and space embargoes.
“Forwarders are adapting in real-time but require a stable operating environment to move goods efficiently,” Fried added.
The AfA is also calling for a resolution to the ongoing closure of the Department of Homeland Security since February 13. The organization urges policymakers to prioritize the payment of Transportation Security Administration personnel to avoid further disruptions in air traffic. Fried emphasized: “Ending uncertainties, whether operational or regulatory, is crucial for maintaining the resilience and reliability of the air freight sector.”
The AfA will continue to provide operational updates to its members and advocate for measures that support the stability and predictability of supply chains.
