Mar 23, 2026 at 9:58 AMThe Chilean port Terminal Puerto Arica S.A. (TPA) is expanding its handling capacity with the acquisition of two Konecranes „Gottwald ESP.10“ mobile harbor cranes of generation 6. The order was placed in the first quarter of 2026, and the commissioning of the cranes is scheduled for January 2027. This investment aims to increase capacities in container and general cargo handling, as reported by Konecranes.
Important role in trade
According to the company, the port of Arica has established itself as a hub for container and general cargo trade for northern Chile as well as for trade with Peru and Bolivia. TPA, which has been using Konecranes cranes for two decades, began its fleet development with two generation 4 mobile harbor cranes. Another generation 5 crane followed a decade later. TPA is part of Neltume Ports, a terminal operator in Latin America that utilizes Konecranes Gottwald mobile harbor cranes at several locations.
The new „ESP.10“ cranes represent a step in TPA’s fleet development. With a maximum working radius of 64 m, they are capable of loading containers onto ships with up to 22 rows. Additionally, the cranes have a lifting capacity of 125 t, making them suitable for handling general and bulk cargo.
Technical Features and Flexibility
According to Konecranes, the new cranes will be equipped with an extended tower to optimize the handling of large container ships. A special feature, as stated by the company, is the quick and easy change of lifting accessories under the hook, allowing for the use of various types of spreaders as well as electrohydraulic grabs for bulk handling. Each crane is equipped with two diesel generators, enabling single or dual-engine operation with integrated redundancy.
