First Urban Air Mobility strategy of a German city
Mar 20, 2026 at 10:01 AMThe fleet compliance specialist AssetGo informs in a statement about the upcoming changes to the tachograph regulations for light commercial vehicles (LCVs), which will come into effect on July 1, 2026. These new regulations, introduced as part of the „EU Mobility Package I,“ affect LCVs and vans with a total weight of over 2.5 tons that are used in international freight transport or cabotage operations. From this date, these vehicles must be equipped with a second-generation smart tachograph (G2V2).
Changes for the sector
The introduction of these regulations represents a significant shift for the sector, according to the company, as these vehicles have previously been exempt from tachograph obligations. With the new regulations, driving personnel are required to comply with EU driving time rules. This includes, among other things, maximum daily driving limits and mandatory rest periods, which also apply to the personnel of heavy goods vehicles.
Additionally, operators must collect, download, and present tachograph data during inspections. This includes driver card data as well as up to 56 days of records. Non-compliance with these regulations can lead to penalties and enforcement actions by the relevant authorities.
Preparation for the New Requirements
AssetGo emphasizes that the upcoming deadline forces operators to implement suitable technologies and processes to meet the increased compliance requirements. To address these challenges, the company offers a solution based on its tachograph analysis and driving hours software. This software is designed to enable operators to monitor driver activity, comply with regulations, and reduce administrative burdens.
AssetGo’s platform provides automated tachograph analyses that align driver activities with applicable regulations. Furthermore, it allows for the download of driver and vehicle data, including remote downloads. The system also includes real-time alerts and reports on violations, enabling operators to identify potential issues early.
