Mar 16, 2026 at 2:35 PMThe Philippine terminal operator NorthPort is advancing the modernization of its port infrastructure. The focus is on the structural reinforcement of Pier 14, which is part of a three-year investment program for the terminal’s modernization.
According to the company, construction on the second and third sections of the pier, each measuring 43 meters in length, was completed ahead of schedule. This has improved the stability of the pier at Terminal 1 while also increasing the facility’s resilience to seismic loads. Since February, work has been concentrated on the fourth and final section of the pier, which is 53 meters long.
In parallel, additional modernization measures are being implemented. These include the renewal of the remaining deck surfaces and repairs to damaged areas above the deck to prevent structural damage. Additionally, the existing fender system is being upgraded from 700 mm to 1,000 mm cell fenders to enhance the safe berthing of vessels.
The work is being carried out alongside ongoing terminal operations to minimize disruptions. Further construction phases are expected to be completed by 2027, supporting the growing domestic sea traffic in the long term.
