Mar 16, 2026 at 2:04 PMAir China Cargo has increased the frequency of its cargo flights between Glasgow Prestwick airport and Chengdu Shuangliu airport. Instead of four weekly connections, the route is now served daily. The first flight of the new service landed in Scotland on the 16th of March.
The expansion strengthens the direct air freight connection between Scotland and an important logistics hub in southwestern China. The route exports Scottish salmon, seafood and whisky, among other goods. At the same time, it facilitates the import of industrial goods from a significant manufacturing region in China.
More capacity for trade with China
With the new daily service, the number of scheduled cargo flights from Prestwick to China rises to a total of 15 per week. Additionally, China Southern Air Logistics operates four more weekly connections from the airport. Industry representatives expect that the connections will support trade worth more than GBP 250 million annually by 2026.
The airport is further enhancing its role as an international air freight hub. In recent months, additional jobs have been created, while increasing cargo volumes underscore the site’s importance for trade between the UK and China.
