JKIA plans comprehensive expansion and modernization
Mar 6, 2026 at 2:36 PMThe collaboration between Bauli from Castel d’Azzano in the province of Verona, which, with its traditional brands such as Bauli and Motta, is one of the leading manufacturers of baked goods and seasonal sweets in Italy, and CHEP, a global provider of supply chain solutions, is being expanded. As of January 1, 2026, CHEP will take over the complete management of pallet flows for Bauli, resulting in a 68% increase in the pallets managed by CHEP. This decision aims to enhance supply chain efficiency and meet the requirements of European regulations on sustainability and packaging.
Sustainability in Focus
The partnership between Bauli and CHEP, which has existed since 2015, is strengthened by the need to ensure a resilient and environmentally friendly supply chain. New regulations require companies to design their products according to the principles of a circular economy, meaning they must be reusable, repairable, and recyclable. Additionally, the materials used must come from sustainable sources that are not affected by deforestation or forest degradation.
Luisa Franzone, Chief Operating Officer of Bauli (photo), stated: “The decision to entrust CHEP with the complete management of our supply chain is based on CHEP’s long-standing reliability and comprehensive network structure. This strategic partnership allows us to optimize our processes and solidify our commitment to a sustainable development model.”
Environmental Benefits through Pallet Pooling
A central aspect of the agreement is pallet pooling, a system in which pallets are rented and used by various manufacturers and retailers for the transport and storage of goods. This model of the circular economy has already helped Bauli save over 1.8 million kg of CO₂ last year, equivalent to 43 circumnavigations of the globe by truck. Additionally, more than 59,000 kg of waste has been avoided, and 614,000 dm³ of wood has been saved, which corresponds to about 593 trees.
With the expansion of the agreement and the increase in pallet volumes, further increases in environmental benefits are expected. CHEP estimates that over 3.2 million kg of CO₂ can be saved, equivalent to 73 circumnavigations of the globe by truck. Furthermore, more than 98,000 kg of waste will be avoided, and over 1 million dm³ of wood will be saved, which corresponds to 992 trees.
The expanded collaboration between Bauli and CHEP highlights the commitment of both companies to make their supply chains more efficient and environmentally friendly.
