Natilus has introduced significant design improvements to its passenger aircraft HORIZON EVO while securing 28 million USD in a Series A funding round. These funds are intended to accelerate the certification and commercialization of the aircraft. The updated version of the HORIZON EVO, based on feedback from the FAA and airlines, shifts from a single-deck to a double-deck layout. This enhances emergency exits, turnaround times, and operational practicality while maintaining compatibility with existing airport infrastructure.
The aircraft is designed to transport up to 250 passengers as well as standard cargo containers. It combines the ability to carry both passengers and freight with lower fuel consumption. Natilus aims to achieve FAA certification and enter commercial operation in the early 2030s.
The new funding round was led by Draper Associates, with participation from investors in the logistics and aviation sectors, such as Flexport and New Vista Capital. These funds will support the first full-scale flight test of the regional cargo aircraft KONA as well as the further development of the HORIZON EVO. Natilus states that its blended-wing design platform can reduce fuel consumption by approximately 30% and operating costs by up to 50%.
With over 570 aircraft pre-orders worth 24 billion USD, Natilus positions itself as a potential new provider to address the global shortage of aircraft in both the cargo and passenger markets.
