Feb 10, 2026 at 11:02 AMOn January 28, 2026, U.S. President Donald J. Trump appointed Laura DiBella as Chair of the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC). DiBella was sworn in as a commissioner on January 6, 2026, after being nominated by Trump on September 3, 2025, and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on December 18, 2025. Her term will end on June 30, 2028.
In her first statement, DiBella said, “It was a great honor to be nominated merely as a commissioner of the Federal Maritime Commission, and now being appointed as chair is a privilege.” She emphasized her gratitude for the trust President Trump has placed in her and acknowledged the responsibility that comes with this role. DiBella stated that she looks forward to leading the dedicated team at the FMC and supporting its important function in line with Trump’s goal of restoring the maritime dominance of the United States.
As Chair of the FMC, DiBella assumes the role of Chief Executive Officer and Chief Administrative Officer of the Commission.
