Interferry calls for halt to EU ETS
Jan 20, 2026 at 11:33 AM„Cargoland by LGG“ has concluded the year 2025 with solid results and looks optimistically towards the future. With a freight volume of 1.32 million tons, handled through more than 26,000 movements, the company achieved its second-best result since the pandemic-related peak in 2021. Particularly noteworthy is the growth in the export sector, which underscores the airport’s significance as an important European hub for freight traffic. Increases were also recorded in the areas of employee numbers, customer numbers, and infrastructure development.
Positive Business Development and Outlook
Laurent Jossart, Managing Director of LGG, commented on the results and emphasized the continuous increase in freight volumes in every quarter of the year. “We spoke about ‚Freight Meets Magic‘ when introducing „Cargoland by LGG“at Air Cargo Europe in Munich, and this magic has manifested in every aspect of our business,” said Jossart. He anticipates a total volume of 1.32 million tons by the end of 2025, which was only surpassed in the exceptional year of 2021. Jossart thanked the employees, partners, and customers for their support during a challenging year.
E-commerce has proven to be the main growth driver in 2025 and was a central theme at the ACE event hosted by „Cargoland by LGG“ in September 2025. The transport of flowers, perishable goods, pharmaceuticals, and live animals also contributed to the positive development. New airlines began to serve the airport, while existing providers expanded their networks and frequencies. „Cargoland by LGG“ maintains partnerships with several airlines, including Cargojet Airways, Suparna Airlines, and CMA CGM Air Cargo, which recently added a Boeing 777-300ERSF to their fleet.
Expansion of Partnerships and Infrastructure
The increase in airline partners led to a growth in destinations, particularly in Latin America, Canada, and Asia. A special agreement signed by „Cargoland by LGG“ with Chicago Rockford International Airport in October 2025 aims to further increase freight traffic and develop a dedicated transatlantic freight corridor between the two freight centers.
To meet the increased demand, „Cargoland by LGG“ recorded a 15% increase in employee numbers in 2025. The focus on creating operational and quality standards supported efficiency, despite external challenges that affected freight flow. Additionally, the digitalization strategy was advanced, leading to greater transparency and fewer process errors.
For 2026, another year of controlled growth is expected. „Cargoland by LGG“ plans to further develop digital tools and has more than 30 projects in the pipeline. The service offerings for special cargo such as live animals, flowers, or pharmaceuticals will also be continuously improved. The Master Plan 2040 continues to be implemented, and the use of cooling capacities for temperature-controlled freight is increasing. The construction of Cargo City West is underway, with the first phase covering an area of 110,000 m² ready for use. Phases 2 and 3 are under construction, with 2026 planned as a significant year for real estate development.
„Cargoland by LGG“ will also be present at industry events in 2026. Jossart announced that the first major freight event in which CARGOLAND by LGG will participate will be the IATA World Cargo Symposium in Lima in March. Additionally, the airport will host the EU-CBEC, the largest freight event of next year, which will take place from September 8 to 10, 2026, at the Palais des Congrès in Liège.
