May 21, 2024 at 7:54 PMThe pfenning Group expands its service portfolio through the strategic acquisition of the pharmaceutical logistics group LOGOSYS from Darmstadt. The transaction, with a 100 percent stake, was completed retroactively as of January 1, 2024. The pfenning Group is taking another step in its growth strategy and is expanding its service and industry portfolio, as LOGOSYS is a renowned logistics group with many years of expertise in highly specialized logistics solutions in the industry segments of pharmaceuticals, healthcare, cosmetics, personal care products, and chemicals.
(Heddesheim/Darmstadt) The LOGOSYS group consists of three companies with units in logistics, freight forwarding, and personnel services, all focused on supply chain services for the pharmaceutical and chemical industries. Long-standing clients of the company include well-known pharmaceutical and healthcare giants, for whom warehousing, packaging, order picking, transport, and distribution to trade or end customers are carried out. With around 250 employees at three locations in the Rhine-Main area, over 60,000 m² with more than 100,000 pallet spaces, and its own fleet, LOGOSYS represents an ideal complement to the pfenning world. In addition, the specialist has a comprehensive quality management system with the necessary certifications and approvals for pharmaceutical logistics: including GDP, GMP, wholesale license, or manufacturing license according to §13 AMG.
Transaction for Succession Reasons
The transaction took place for succession reasons, as Hans-Jürgen Nützel, founder and managing director of LOGOSYS, has stepped back from operational management due to age and has thus set the course for the future of the company. The management of the LOGOSYS group, led by Jürgen Reinhard and Marcel Nützel, remains with the company. Hans-Jürgen Nützel commented on the acquisition as follows: “The Europe-wide presence and the shared leadership philosophy between LOGOSYS and the pfenning Group were decisive criteria for this transaction. We are convinced that this integration creates a win-win situation for both companies and further strengthens our ability to offer innovative solutions.” Due to the geographical proximity between Heddesheim and Darmstadt, a swift integration and the utilization of mutual synergies are also expected, Nützel added.
Expansion of the Service Portfolio
Rana Matthias Nag, managing director of the pfenning Group, added: “The integration of LOGOSYS into our corporate group expands our service portfolio, particularly in the areas of pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and cosmetics. We are confident that we can meet the dynamically evolving demands of supply chains even more effectively. Through the acquisition, we are not only expanding our industry expertise but also our activities in the Rhine-Main area.” On its growth path, the pfenning Group has already acquired seven other companies since 2021, thereby strengthening its service portfolio in the areas of e-commerce & fulfillment, mobility solutions, fresh logistics, personnel services, transport services, general cargo network, two-man handling, and co-packing/display construction. Meanwhile, the pfenning Group employs 7,000 employees in Europe.
