Fiege with Independent Power Supply in Gengenbach

The logistics service provider Fiege has commissioned a photovoltaic system for self-consumption at its location in Gengenbach. The family-owned company from Greven in Westphalia is now producing solar power for its own needs on an area of 6,000 square meters in the Black Forest.

(Gengenbach/Greven) By the end of the year, the entire roof of the logistics property, which covers around 40,000 square meters, is to be equipped with PV modules from various operators. In total, around 4,000 megawatt-hours of electricity will be produced annually at the Fiege location in Gengenbach. This corresponds approximately to the annual electricity consumption of 1,100 households.

Self-Production of Electricity Becoming Increasingly Important

“Photovoltaic systems are a very important component of our energy management. Only in this way can we pursue our clear goal of becoming a climate-neutral company as quickly as possible,” says Marc Borgmann, Head of Energy Management at Fiege Real Estate. “Furthermore, the self-production of electricity and thus an independent energy supply is becoming increasingly important due to rising electricity prices and the tense situation in the energy market.”

Further Systems in Realization

Therefore, Fiege is also promoting the construction of photovoltaic systems for self-supply beyond Gengenbach. Just in May, Fiege commissioned another PV system in Zülpich, North Rhine-Westphalia. “Additionally, two photovoltaic systems are in the realization phase at our new locations in Barleben and Emmerich,” explains Mareike Vogt, Project Manager for Photovoltaics at Fiege. “In this way, we are contributing to climate protection – and already sealed areas are being utilized as best as possible by equipping the roof area with photovoltaic modules.” Furthermore, Fiege relies on CO2-neutral energies for energy procurement, resulting in the annual saving of several thousand tons of CO2.
