Mar 3, 2022 at 7:49 PMCargoBeamer, the leading operator for unaccompanied transport of non-craneable semi-trailers in Europe, has contracted manager Boris Timm. Timm holds the newly created position of Chief Operating Officer (COO) and will be a member of the board. The recognized expert in European rail freight transport was most recently Head of Intermodal Europe at Amazon and previously held various leadership positions at Maersk for many years.
(Leipzig) In addition to Boris Timm, two new managing directors, Tim Krasowka and Mario Glöckner, have been appointed. Krasowka will jointly lead CargoBeamer intermodal operations GmbH with Matthias Schadler, while Glöckner will head CargoBeamer Terminal GmbH alongside Thomas Rietz. In all cases, these are newly created positions within the structure of CargoBeamer, so there are no departures at the board and management level.
With the appointment of Boris Timm, CargoBeamer expands its board team from three to four members. As COO, he joins the existing circle of Nicolas Albrecht (CEO), Dr. Markus E. Fischer (CFO), and Dr. Hans-Jürgen Weidemann (CTO). In his new role at CargoBeamer, Timm will be responsible for the operational and commercial development of the offering on the way to becoming one of the key players in European rail freight transport.
Former Intermodal Head of Amazon and Maersk Joins CargoBeamer
With Boris Timm, CargoBeamer is bringing on board an experienced logistics manager with proven expertise in building and scaling a continental network of intermodal connections. Timm held various leadership positions at the logistics and shipping company Maersk at the beginning of his career, where he was responsible for operations in the Horn of Africa (Sudan) as a managing director and board member. After further positions at Seago Line in Denmark and wein & co. Ltd. in Taiwan, Timm returned to Maersk in 2017 as Head of Landside Transportation to take over responsibility for the company’s European intermodal business. In 2020, he transitioned to Head of Intermodal Europe at Amazon, where he led the development of the pan-European intermodal activities of the shipping logistics provider. In his new role as COO, Timm will take on the leading responsibility for terminal and rail operations, scheduling, sales, and logistics control at CargoBeamer.
Boris Timm states: “With CargoBeamer’s mission to shift road transport on a large scale to rail and thus make trains accessible for all types of semi-trailers, we have the opportunity to sustainably change the European transport sector in the coming years for the benefit of a significantly improved environmental balance. As someone who personally cares about rail, I fully share this vision. The attractive challenge of building one of the leading intermodal companies in Europe with CargoBeamer ultimately convinced me to want to be part of CargoBeamer’s journey.”
Excellent Knowledge of International Rail Logistics
Tim Krasowka will jointly lead CargoBeamer intermodal operations GmbH with Matthias Schadler, which is responsible for the operation, scheduling, and sales of the company’s own trains. He has more than 15 years of professional experience in European rail freight transport, during which he held various leadership positions within the Deutsche Bahn Group in Germany, France, and Switzerland. Among other roles, Krasowka led the strategic realignment of the transport plan in Western and Southern Europe as Head of Service Design and a member of the management board at Euro Cargo Rail in Paris (now DB Cargo France). At CargoBeamer, Krasowka will lead the operations area, while Schadler will be responsible for sales and customer management. In addition to his position at CargoBeamer intermodal operations GmbH, Krasowka also serves as managing director of CargoBeamer’s business in France.
Tim Krasowka says: “In the past, I have repeatedly been in contact with the CargoBeamer system and have already experienced many of its facets. European rail freight transport needs innovative and high-frequency transshipment solutions to achieve ambitious growth targets and significantly shift more road transport to environmentally friendly rail. CargoBeamer offers one of the best approaches in the market for this and can be the answer to numerous challenges in the logistics industry, so I look forward to helping shape the revolution in freight transport from now on.”
Leading Role in Scaling a Europe-wide Logistics Infrastructure
With the third new addition, Mario Glöckner, CargoBeamer has gained an expert in identifying and developing new terminal locations. For several years, the economist was responsible for the international expansion of the real estate portfolio at the e-commerce company Zalando, one of the fastest-growing companies in Europe. Together with his team, Glöckner led the identification, acquisition, and establishment of new locations for the logistics, office, and retail spaces of the online retailer. In later positions, he was also involved in the founding of a digital platform for leasing commercial spaces and served as Head of Asset Management at the private equity firm Coros. In his new role as managing director of CargoBeamer Terminal GmbH, Glöckner will play a leading role in the strategic identification, acquisition, and development of sites for new CargoBeamer terminals, while Thomas Rietz will oversee their planning, construction, and maintenance.
Mario Glöckner explains: “I am very excited to now be a part of CargoBeamer and to identify and develop new terminal locations in Europe with the team in the future. Our vision of bringing transport to the rail and drastically reducing CO2 emissions in the transport sector is as ambitious as it is necessary and requires a close network of transshipment terminals across Europe. I look forward to working with CargoBeamer again at a company with high growth ambitions in an international market and to implementing our goal of a Europe-wide terminal network.”
Nicolas Albrecht, CEO of CargoBeamer, on the new appointments: “The appointment of Boris Timm, Tim Krasowka, and Mario Glöckner is an important step for us and a strong signal on the way to becoming one of the most influential players in combined transport in Europe, where we want to develop in the coming years. With the hiring of Boris and Tim, we have significantly strengthened our operational expertise. Both bring excellent knowledge and a strong network in the European intermodal business and will decisively advance our expansion plans with routes in numerous new markets. Mario has a leading position in selecting new sites for our CargoBeamer terminals in his new role, for which he has excellent expertise thanks to his past professional experiences. We are very pleased to have Boris, Tim, and Mario on board at CargoBeamer.”
