Mar 24, 2021 at 6:45 AMThe ‘white-label’ city logistics service provider URBAN CARGO, founded in 2016, has officially launched a transshipment hub at the P+R parking lot of the S- and U-Bahn Tempelhof – directly at the BAB 100 on Tempelhofer Damm – in the presence of the district mayor for Tempelhof-Schöneberg, Angelika Schöttler (SPD).
(Berlin) URBAN CARGO already operates micro-depots in Moabit, Charlottenburg, and Schöneberg. The new 80 sqm facility in Tempelhof, equipped with solar panels and battery storage, was established in autumn 2020 with support from the BMVI, the Senate, and DB Station & Service AG.
The employed courier drivers deliver between 200 and 250 packages per day to private customers and organic stores. The clients are predominantly online retailers and organic food producers from the surrounding area – including Ökodorf Brodowin, Landkorb, Vollkern, among others. Deliveries to the 4 micro-depots occur in the morning between 6 and 8 AM.
CO2-Free Last-Mile Distribution with E-Cargo Bikes
From there, the environmentally friendly last-mile distribution is carried out using CO2-free e-cargo bikes, light electric vehicles, and e-vans. According to URBAN CARGO, this logistics system replaces approximately 4-5 conventional diesel transporters. The micro-depots currently also stock disinfectants, gloves, and face masks for the couriers.
The dynamic Berlin-based city logistics start-up URBAN CARGO was co-founded in early 2016 by Berlin transport politician Roland Prejawa. As the only white-label service provider, the company exclusively uses innovative, attractive, CO2-free vehicles such as light vehicles and cargo bikes for last-mile delivery. Its clients include major KEP services as well as online retailers, brick-and-mortar stores, and laboratories that improve their own environmental balance by contracting URBAN CARGO.
