Oct 14, 2020 at 7:33 AMDeutsche Post AG has set itself the goal of reducing all logistics-related emissions to zero by 2050. Compared to 2007, CO2 efficiency has already improved by 35% – by 2025, 50% of emissions are to be reduced.
(Bonn) – DHL Freight is strengthening its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas and pollutant emissions. In line with the company’s own GoGreen program, the freight specialist is publishing a new white paper introducing the measures, services, and solutions that help customers make their supply chains more sustainable in road freight. By 2050, Deutsche Post DHL Group aims to reduce all logistics-related emissions to zero. Important milestones have already been achieved: Compared to 2007, the company’s CO2 efficiency has improved by 35%. By 2025, 50% of emissions are to be reduced.
“As a leading logistics company, we want to reduce all transport-related emissions to zero. This path requires courage to try out new technologies and alternatives, but also persuasion so that business partners and customers pull together with us. Only the collaboration of all stakeholders will lead to real decarbonization in logistics,” says Antje Huber, Senior Vice President Marketing & Strategy and responsible for green logistics at DHL Freight.
Parcel shipments can already be shipped climate-neutrally today
DHL Freight’s portfolio contributes with a wide range of solutions to improve the environmental balance of customers based on logistics. Already today, DHL Freight sets decisive standards in road freight: Parcel shipments can reach their destination climate-neutrally with the premium service DHL Freight Eurapid – and that across Europe within 24 or 48 hours.
Transparency regarding emissions through digital tools
When it comes to creating transparency regarding emissions, digital tools enable corresponding CO2 monitoring along the supply chain. Customers can evaluate and optimize various transport scenarios regarding their CO2 emissions with the support of certified GoGreen specialists from DHL.
Alternative drive systems on the way to climate neutrality
DHL Freight is also specifically focusing on alternative drive technologies in its transport fleet. The company already has 30 liquefied natural gas trucks on Europe’s roads. They consume 15% less fuel than diesel vehicles. Electric trucks are also being tested in heavy-duty transport, and the development of hydrogen technologies is being advanced. The share of alternative drives in the DHL fleet, as well as with service partners, is to continuously increase. Rail transport remains important for sustainability, which DHL Freight will significantly focus on. Combined transport solutions are worthwhile, especially on long distances, not only economically but also ecologically. Here, DHL Freight aims to offer its customers further individual solutions in the future.
Where emissions are currently unavoidable, DHL Freight invests in recognized climate protection projects to ensure certified compensation. This contributes to the climate neutrality of the entire supply chain.
