The HGK Group, a Europe-wide provider of integrated transport and logistics services based in Cologne (Germany), has appointed Richard Schroeter (right) as the new Director Corporate Affairs. Starting from June 8, 2026, he will be responsible for the strategic direction of the international sea freight activities as well as the company’s external representation. In his new role, Schroeter will report directly to Steffen Bauer, the CEO of the HGK Group. The aim of his position is to actively shape the political and regulatory framework and to support the company’s positioning in key future topics.
Bauer emphasizes the importance of this appointment: „Richard Schroeter represents sea freight expertise on a global scale and has strong public affairs competence. With his role as Director Corporate Affairs, we strengthen our ability to act in the political environment.“ The HGK Group plans to strategically expand its international sea freight activities and partnerships.
Experience in the international logistics sector
Schroeter brings nearly four decades of experience in the logistics industry, which he has gained in various leadership positions both domestically and internationally. His professional background includes roles in Hong Kong for Hapag Lloyd and in Singapore for DSV Air & Ocean. These experiences are expected to help him strategically develop the sea freight business and international business relationships of the HGK Group.

He emphasizes that the HGK Group stands at the intersection of economy, infrastructure, energy transition, and transport policy. He intends to leverage his international logistics experience and his network in politics and industry to profile the HGK Group to relevant stakeholders and advance topics such as sustainable logistics, digitalization, and international transport chains.
Diverse tasks in public affairs management
Schroeter’s core responsibilities include the development and implementation of the HGK Group’s public affairs strategy. He will maintain and expand relationships with political decision-makers, authorities, associations, and other relevant stakeholders. Additionally, he is responsible for the group’s issue, crisis, and reputation management, monitors political and regulatory developments, and represents the company’s interests in political and societal dialogue.
In the past three years, Schroeter has served as a representative of the Port of Antwerp-Bruges in federal politics and at the state level, advocating for the port alliance. On future topics such as the energy transition and the development of a hydrogen-based industry, he has been a point of contact for decision-makers from business and politics.
