Geotab analyzes freight transport efficiency in Europe
May 18, 2026 at 10:09 AMThe globally operating shipping company MSC, headquartered in Geneva, and its logistics arm MEDLOG have received re-certification for their Food Safety Management (FSM) and Good Distribution Practice (GDP) protocols from the certification body RINA. MEDLOG Italy has also received these certifications for the first time.
The certifications ensure the quality, safety, and effectiveness of sensitive goods throughout the entire supply chain. The FSM, based on ISO 22000, pertains to food and beverages, while the GDP follows EU directives 2001/83/EC and 2011/62/EU for pharmaceutical products.
MSC and MEDLOG had already obtained GDP and FSM certification in 2023 after a comprehensive review. A crucial factor for compliance with the standards is robust temperature management during transport.
Enhanced services for sensitive transport
The successful renewal of these certifications reflects MSC’s commitment to maintaining high standards in cargo safety and customer service. Customers opting for a GDP or FSM-certified protocol benefit from additional services, including:
– Regulatory compliance
– 24/7 monitoring by the MSC Control Tower team, which can intervene as needed to ensure that the cargo arrives in perfect condition
– A detailed completion report
For even more control, customers can combine FSM or GDP with “MSC iReefer,” an advanced container monitoring system for refrigerated cargo.
Alfonso Masullo, Global ISO Compliance and Certification Manager at MSC, stated: “We are proud to have renewed these certifications and to have MEDLOG Italy on board for the first time. We can now offer FSM and GDP protocols not only at sea but also during inland transport in Italy – marking an exciting new chapter for us and our customers.”
With the new certification, MEDLOG Italy can now extend FSM and GDP-compliant protocols beyond pure port operations to inland logistics, including storage, terminal handling, and transport by truck or rail.
The renewal and expansion of these certifications underscore MEDLOG’s commitment to high standards in cargo safety, reliability, and customer service. Customers in the food, beverage, and pharmaceutical sectors can request solutions for GDP or FSM-compliant transport at any time.
