May 15, 2026 at 11:03 AMCircus Knie, the traditional circus of Switzerland, has been captivating audiences since its founding in 1919. In 2026, the show, which premiered on March 13, continues to enchant viewers. Behind the scenes, SWISS WorldCargo has contributed to the smooth execution of this spectacular production by organizing the transport of several shipments from Asia to Switzerland.
A new concept for the circus
Circus Knie is in a constant state of change that extends beyond the stage and the cities. Since 2020, the organization, which boasts over 100 years of experience, has reinterpreted the classic circus experience and directed it towards a modern future. The focus is now increasingly on the elements that make the circus unforgettable: immersive storytelling, spectacular special effects such as water curtains, and unique lighting design. In this new approach, the narrative takes center stage, transforming the individual performances of the artists into a larger, coherent artistic concept. This leads to a richer and more immersive experience that elevates the art of the circus as a whole.
To realize such a live show that the audience wants to experience repeatedly, highly specialized equipment and production expertise are required. These authentic, precisely planned processes can only be provided by local experts, and reliable transport logistics are necessary to bring all parts of the spectacular show together.
Transport from Asia – special logistics for special art
A standout element of Circus Knie’s production was the staging of one of China’s most beautiful traditions: the lion dance. Among the first shipments that SWISS WorldCargo transported for Circus Knie from Asia to Switzerland were lion dance costumes and water poles used for the traditional dance. This dance, typically performed on water, is part of the Chinese New Year celebrations and is being presented for the first time in a circus context. The local production of these extraordinary pieces required two to three months of craftsmanship. The transport posed a significant logistical challenge, as the lion heads were fragile and large, while the poles were long and heavy, necessitating careful handling at every stage of the journey.
A second shipment, transported from the Far East on one of SWISS’s planes to Zurich, included additional acrobatic equipment that also required special care and precision during transport. Timely delivery of these shipments was crucial to ensure that every visual and technical detail was in place for the full brilliance of the show to come to life. The transport goods also included several components of a stage elephant, another striking element that brought Circus Knie’s new and modern artistic concept to life on stage.
Precise coordination for a smooth process
In Shanghai and Singapore, the transport process was carefully coordinated and executed with precision. The regional colleagues at SWISS WorldCargo established contact with a trusted local partner in the Asian region, who took on the specific transport requirements of the circus. After the circus organization shared the details of the cargo with the agent, the agent conducted all necessary checks to confirm the suitability of the shipment for air transport. The equipment was professionally packaged, secured on pallets, and prepared for the journey.
The shipments were carefully handled from departure to arrival, traveling safely and on time in the cargo hold of the planes, ready for their grand performance.
