May 11, 2026 at 7:15 AMCathay Cargo launched a weekly freighter service to Bangkok on May 6, 2026, re-integrating the city into the company’s network after a ten-year hiatus. This new connection provides Thai exporters and freight forwarders with dedicated transport capacity and enables connectivity through the hub in Hong Kong. The flight, which departs from Hong Kong every Wednesday, utilizes a Boeing 747-400F and offers additional capacity as well as greater flexibility for shipping general cargo and selected special shipments.
The introduction of the freighter service complements the existing capacity of Cathay Pacific’s passenger flights, allowing exporters and logistics partners to better manage demand during peak times. Additionally, the service provides an option for cargo that is restricted on passenger flights, such as oversized freight, high-density goods, and certain hazardous materials.
Ashish Kapur, Regional Head of Cargo at Cathay in Southeast Asia and Oceania, stated: „The return of our scheduled freighter service to Bangkok is an important step in strengthening Thailand’s cargo connectivity with the world. Bangkok is emerging as a promising market and a rising high-tech hub in Southeast Asia. This service supports Thai exporters and freight forwarders and expands routing options through our Hong Kong hub to enable smoother connections.“
Thailand remains a significant market for Cathay Cargo within the Southeast Asia network. In 2025, the company transported over 29,000 tons of cargo from Thailand, reflecting steady growth and high demand for a wide range of goods, including general merchandise and time-sensitive shipments.
Through the Hong Kong hub, the new service enhances routing options and connectivity for Thai exporters, providing access to key long-haul markets such as North America and mainland China. This is supported by the strong infrastructure at Hong Kong Airport, where dedicated terminals for handling special cargo are established. Customers also benefit from tracking and monitoring capabilities, allowing for better visibility of their shipments. Access to the expanded Greater Bay Area is also facilitated through Hong Kong, supporting shipments to South China beyond airport-to-airport movements.
