May 7, 2026 at 6:25 PMHapag-Lloyd opened a new office in Cotonou, Benin, on May 20, to strengthen its presence in West Africa. This measure enables the company to intensify local customer support and better tailor its services to regional needs.
Benin is emerging as a growing market in West Africa, supported by continuous economic growth and investments in infrastructure as well as trade facilitation. The Port of Cotonou serves as an important gateway for access to Benin and its hinterland, including the neighboring landlocked markets of Niger and Burkina Faso. This geographical location makes Benin a significant logistics hub in the region.
Hapag-Lloyd has been active in the region for some time and utilizes a regional network to serve its customers. The new office in Cotonou will play a central role in connecting the company’s services to and from West Africa. Through its direct presence on-site, Hapag-Lloyd plans to deepen collaboration with customers and partners and develop tailored solutions that meet the specific requirements of the local market.
Jesper Kanstrup, Managing Director Sub-Region Africa at Hapag-Lloyd, commented on the opening: „The opening of our new office in Benin is an important step in further expanding our presence in West Africa. Benin is a key market for us in West Africa and aligns very well with our growth objectives under Strategy 2030. With the new office, we are closer to our customers and partners and can further improve the quality of our services in the region.“
With the opening of the office in Cotonou, Hapag-Lloyd reaffirms its long-term commitment to reliable transport solutions and the enhancement of service quality throughout the West Africa region.
