Apr 21, 2026 at 10:24 AMThe International Air Transport Association (IATA) has announced the opening of a new office in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. This is part of efforts to strengthen the country’s air transport infrastructure and to introduce a Billing and Settlement Plan (BSP) by the end of the year, according to the association.
Growth potential in Central Asia
Uzbekistan aims to establish itself as a significant regional hub in Central Asia, according to IATA. The country plans to leverage its geographical location to promote air connections to its neighboring states as well as to destinations in Asia, the Caucasus, and Europe.
Rafael Schvartzman, Regional Vice President for Europe at IATA, states: “Uzbekistan is a growing market that holds a leading position in Central Asia for passenger and cargo traffic. The IATA office and BSP in Uzbekistan will provide strategic support to enhance air transport by improving air safety and operational efficiency.” With the opening of the office, IATA experts will be available to assist airlines and airports in implementing global safety and operational standards.
