Apr 15, 2026 at 7:59 AMA new pedestrian and bicycle bridge was recently transported by ship from Poland to Stockholm. The transport included six large sections, with the heaviest section weighing up to 152 tons. This bridge is being constructed as part of the Slussen project, which aims to connect two districts of the Swedish capital. The transport highlights the capabilities of Stockholm’s port facilities for direct transport to the city center, as reported by the Ports of Stockholm.
On April 12, the ship „Commander 1,“ towing the barge „Carrier 17,“ arrived at the Frihamnen port in Stockholm. The delivered bridge sections measured between 9 × 15 meters and 25 × 10 meters, with a total length of 230 meters. To further transport the parts to the Slussen project, they were lifted onto large pontoons using a marine crane named „Lodbrok.“
According to the Ports of Stockholm, the sea transport of these bridge components represents an efficient and sustainable solution, as it brings the cargo directly to Stockholm and further to its final destination within the city. Compared to road transport, which would involve higher costs and greater strain on infrastructure, sea transport offers advantages.
