Simon Loos expands its electric fleet with a new order of 75 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600. This order increases the total number of electric trucks in the fleet of the Dutch logistics provider to 210 vehicles. With this, Simon Loos positions itself as the operator of the largest electric truck fleet in the Netherlands and one of the largest in Europe.
Growing Focus on Electric Transport
The decision to further expand the fleet underscores the increasing relevance of electric transport for the operational business of Simon Loos. Wim Roks, the company’s fleet manager, reports that the first order of 75 eActros 600, delivered in autumn 2024, has met all expectations. “Even during the delivery of the first order, we began to evaluate the vehicles in practical use,” explains Roks.
The newly ordered eActros 600 will be primarily used in food distribution. This includes some three-axle vehicles intended for network transport and beverage supply. Currently, about two-thirds of the first order have already been delivered. After the complete delivery of the first batch, the second delivery of the eActros 600 will begin seamlessly. Roks emphasizes: “We want to keep moving forward – not stand still.” This follow-up order reaffirms the success of the eActros 600 in daily operations and Simon Loos’s clear strategy to rapidly expand its electric fleet.
Pioneering Role in Electric Commercial Vehicles
Eric Brok, CEO of Daimler Truck Nederland B.V., highlights that developments in the field of electric commercial vehicles are progressing rapidly. Simon Loos was already the first company in Europe to put the first-generation eActros 300 into operation at the end of 2021. By the end of this year, a total of 150 eActros 600 will be in operation within the Simon Loos fleet. Brok explains: “The acceptance of electric transport largely depends on the practical experiences of such pioneers. Their decision to choose the eActros 600 in this quantity shows how proven the vehicle is in daily use.”
The close collaboration between Simon Loos, the contracting partner GomesTrucks, and Daimler Truck is seen as the foundation for future developments in the field of electric commercial vehicles.
