Industrial Manufacturing in Transition
Jan 8, 2026 at 11:26 AMThe air freight industry faces unique challenges and opportunities in 2026. Andrius Antanaitis, Director of Business Development Europe at Strike Aviation, shared insights in a conversation about the current developments and prospects of the market.
Strong Volumes Despite Uncertainties
Antanaitis describes the global market situation as „loud,“ yet with consistently strong volumes. Airline systems continue to show red figures, while flights are fully booked and available capacity remains minimal. „If the market were to fall, the planes would have space, but we see the opposite,“ says Antanaitis. This situation indicates that the demand for air freight remains high, despite the challenges the industry currently faces.
Another aspect highlighted by Antanaitis is the rise in e-commerce imports from China. These remain at a high level, resulting in many return flights being nearly empty. This leads to export prices dropping to an unsustainable level, making traditional exports less attractive.
Strategic Realignment and Partnerships
In light of these developments, Strike Aviation is adjusting its strategic direction. Antanaitis sees strong long-term potential in Oceania and Northeast Asia, particularly in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Korea. These routes are increasingly gaining importance in the company’s product portfolio. Additionally, new opportunities are being explored, which Antanaitis refers to as „Opportunity Airlines.“ With support from partners and brokers, Strike Aviation is now selling capacities for airlines such as Icelandair as well as for several Asian and Middle Eastern carriers. This paves the way for long-term partnerships.
Optimism Despite Challenges
Despite the uncertainties in the market, there remains an overall sense of controlled optimism. Antanaitis reports that each month surpasses the corresponding figures from the previous year, and the new office is characterized by energy and results. Sustainability remains a central concern for the company. Antanaitis emphasizes that markets will always be subject to fluctuations and that factors such as fuel prices and geopolitical developments will continue to bring unexpected challenges. Therefore, he sees Strike Aviation’s task as developing a network and product mix that enables customers to advance in every cycle.
