Harder relocates BRITA production from Taunusstein to Bad Camberg
Jan 11, 2022 at 4:39 PMFor the EDEKA Nord warehouse in Zarrentin (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern), the logistics experts from LogBer GmbH have planned a new, larger cold storage facility on the existing site, which commenced operations in December 2021. The current solution could no longer meet future-oriented requirements.
(Ahrensburg/Zarrentin) When sales increase, space in the warehouse becomes tight. This scenario became a reality at the cold storage facility of the EDEKA Nord logistics site in Zarrentin. One problem, two possible solutions: The first, an expansion of the existing cold storage facility, was ruled out after extensive examination due to the old building structure. An expansion usually involves comprehensive modernization, which, according to a cost-benefit analysis, did not seem sensible. Therefore, the project team decided to construct a new cold storage facility, which offers a total area of 12,500 m2, roughly three times the space of the old building. LogBer designed the concept: Construction for the new warehouse began on a free area of approximately 24,000 m2 within the logistics site.
Bridge between buildings increases logistical efficiency
A special feature is the connection to the adjacent warehouse for dry goods: “Since EDEKA Nord delivers frozen and dry goods together, there was a desire to connect both warehouses so that incoming trucks only need to visit one loading point. This is time-efficient and reduces traffic on the premises,” explains Jonas Bauschke, managing director at LogBer. The connection was established by a bridge, over which goods can be transported between the two buildings using roll containers with technical support.
“The new cold storage facility provides us with more space and flexibility. This is especially helpful during times of increased demand, such as now for the Christmas season,” says Uwe Schmidt, overall project manager at EDEKA Nord. The storage process began on November 29 with the transport of goods from the old to the new warehouse. Additionally, new goods are being added. The picking process started on December 6.
