Jun 2, 2021 at 5:42 PMDematic has fully automated the distribution center of the global luxury goods group Kering S.A. in Trecate, Italy, located 90 kilometers northeast of Turin. The project was advanced through a constant exchange of information, with a lot of commitment and close collaboration to create a lasting partnership and achieve the best possible results. The first part of the building has been in operation since March 2020, and the second area, which covers more than 100,000 square meters, is scheduled to ramp up by the end of the second quarter of 2021.
(Heusenstamm / Trecate) The new global logistics center has been created in record time and covers an area of more than 162,000 square meters, equivalent to more than 20 football fields. It features automation technology that offers scalability, innovative sustainability, and many features for employee well-being. The development of the system in just twelve months was made possible by Dematic’s global resources. The company was able to rely entirely on its international teams and resources in partnership with Metis Consulting and XPO Logistics.
The distribution center combines a range of automation systems from Dematic: a Dematic Multishuttle system with 600,000 storage locations, a pallet racking warehouse with 50,000 storage locations, a Dematic pocket sorter with three modules, the Dematic Multishuttle Flex system with six aisles, and a Dematic crossbelt sorter. The systems are connected by a total of ten kilometers of conveyor technology, serving more than 350 workstations.
Reduction of Lead Times by 50 Percent
All intralogistics processes are controlled by Dematic iQ software. At the same time, the distribution center serves the demand from regional warehouses, retail stores, wholesalers, and e-commerce worldwide. It is also expected that Kering’s shipping capacity will significantly increase to up to 80 million per year and storage capacity to up to 20 million garments. Additionally, the fashion company plans to reduce lead times by about 50 percent with the facility. This will be achieved through faster order processing and optimized coordination between the group’s brands.
The project was planned with two go-live dates in 2021, with final acceptance scheduled for July 2022. A total of approximately 900 employees are expected to be employed at the site.
“We are proud to be a valuable partner for this project,” said Marco Parini, Director of Solution Development South Europe at Dematic. “We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Kering and supporting the company in meeting current demand and being positioned for future success.”
