Jul 8, 2026 at 8:39 AMdnata, a global provider of air and travel services based in Dubai (UAE), has taken another step in its growth strategy in Italy. Starting this month, 300 employees at the airports in Rome and Milan will be transitioned to permanent employment contracts. This measure affects 150 employees at Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) and another 150 at Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) and Milan Linate Airport (LIN).
Strengthening operations in Italy
The conversion of employment contracts to permanent positions is part of dnata’s long-term personnel strategy, which aims to enhance employment stability, develop skills, and improve operational resilience at three of the country’s major air traffic hubs. With this measure, the company aims to increase the stability of its workforce while strengthening the teams that support airline customers in Rome and Milan.
In recent years, the Emirates Group company has expanded its presence in Italy by entering FCO and the full integration of its Italian ground handling service under the dnata brand. The company currently employs around 5,000 staff at the three airports and serves more than 60 airlines. Over 150,000 flights are handled annually.
Alberto Morosi, CEO of dnata Italy, commented on this step:
“Italy is a key part of dnata’s global airport operations, and our employees are at the heart of our success. By converting 300 positions to permanent roles, we are providing many of our colleagues with greater stability and strengthening the teams that support our airline customers.”
Investments in infrastructure and personnel
At FCO, where dnata received a seven-year ground handling license in February 2025, the company has further expanded its teams and capabilities. The station now employs over 2,500 people and serves 25 airlines. Since its opening, over 80,000 flights have been processed, and approximately 700 new ground support equipment (GSE) units have been deployed.
In Milan, dnata is strengthening its presence at MXP and LIN airports while also advancing the expansion of its cargo business at Malpensa Airport. Construction of a new facility worth EUR 25 million, which will have an annual handling capacity of over 100,000 tons of cargo, is already underway. The opening is planned for the end of 2027 and is expected to create 200 additional jobs.
The conversion of the 300 positions to permanent roles follows agreements previously made with unions in Italy. These include measures for organizational development, promoting internal talent, and supporting employee welfare initiatives, including programs that encourage a better work-life balance.
