Daan van der Meer (r.) took over the management of the DACHSER Logistics Center Allgäu on July 1, 2026. He succeeds Thomas Henkel (M.), who is retiring after 24 years at the helm of the branch. The logistics center in Memmingen is DACHSER’s largest operational site worldwide, processing around 2,000 tons of industrial goods and 3,000 tons of food daily.
Van der Meer, a 35-year-old Dutchman, has been with DACHSER in Memmingen for over eight years and has been responsible for European logistics as a freight manager since 2022. He began his career in 2012 during his studies in logistics management at the DACHSER branch in Waddinxveen near Rotterdam. Later, he worked as a freight manager at the Grevenmacher branch in Luxembourg.
New management team in Allgäu
In his new role, Van der Meer works closely with Florian Graber (l.), who has been the branch manager for food logistics at the Allgäu Logistics Center since January 1, 2026. Graber, a trained logistics specialist, previously served as a freight manager for food logistics in Memmingen since 2021 and began his career at DACHSER in 2003 with an apprenticeship as a freight forwarding merchant.
Alexander Tonn, COO of Road Logistics at DACHSER, expressed positive remarks about the internal filling of key positions: “We are pleased that we were able to fill these important positions at the Allgäu Logistics Center and within our European network with leaders from our own ranks.” Tonn emphasizes that Van der Meer has successfully completed the development program for future leaders and has demonstrated his ability to lead a logistics company both in the hectic day-to-day business and with entrepreneurial foresight in Memmingen.
Henkel, who is retiring after 40 years at DACHSER and 24 years as managing director of the Allgäu Logistics Center, has significantly contributed to the development of the site. He was involved in the establishment of the logistics center in 1992 and led the merger of the Kempten and Memmingen branches. Under his leadership, the Allgäu Logistics Center was particularly expanded in the area of contract logistics. He has served as managing director since 2002.
Tonn honors Henkel with the words:
“Thomas Henkel has made an extraordinary contribution to DACHSER during his long and successful career. With his entrepreneurial skills, he has developed the Memmingen branch into the largest operational site of the company.”
The DACHSER Logistics Center Allgäu in Memmingen offers transport and warehousing services for customers in the industrial and consumer goods sectors, as well as for refrigerated and non-refrigerated food. Annually, 1.3 million shipments are transported there, and the storage capacity includes nearly 200,000 pallet spaces.
DACHSER continues to invest in the Memmingen site and is building a new transshipment hall for industrial and consumer goods to create space for further growth. By mid-2027, around 90 new jobs are expected to be created, bringing DACHSER’s workforce in the Memmingen industrial park to over 900 employees.
