Jul 6, 2026 at 1:44 PMThe Intermodal Association of North America (IANA) has awarded the Port of Long Beach as the first recipient of the Intermodal Innovation Award. This honor recognizes organizations that contribute to the advancement of intermodal freight transportation through their leadership and vision.
The Intermodal Innovation Award is aimed at for-profit companies, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, or government agencies that have made a significant and measurable contribution to promoting the intermodal transportation industry. The Port of Long Beach was selected for its ongoing leadership in strengthening the intermodal freight network in the United States. This is achieved through strategic investments in infrastructure, digital innovations, operational excellence, environmental responsibility, and collaboration along the supply chain. These initiatives have improved the mobility of goods, increased supply chain visibility, and solidified the port’s role as a catalyst for innovation in North America’s intermodal transportation system.
Anne Reinke, President and CEO of IANA, stated:
“The Intermodal Innovation Award recognizes organizations that not only respond to change but actively shape it. The Port of Long Beach has consistently demonstrated what forward-thinking leadership means by investing in infrastructure, technology, and partnerships that strengthen intermodal transportation for the entire industry. Their work creates sustainable benefits for shippers, carriers, ports, and supply chain partners across North America, making them a fitting first recipient of this award.”
The port was recognized for various initiatives that advance intermodal freight transportation. These include long-term planning to expand intermodal capacity, investments in rail and freight infrastructure, digital tools to enhance visibility and planning of freight, sustainable transportation initiatives, and collaboration with industry and public partners to address common challenges in the supply chain.
Reinke added:
“The Port of Long Beach has shown that innovation is not a one-time project or technology, but a continuous commitment to improving freight mobility. Their leadership reflects the spirit of this award and the future of our industry.”
