Jun 22, 2026 at 2:14 PMThe first phase of a project to support public transport in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv has been successfully completed. This was achieved through the northern Italian metropolis of Turin in close collaboration with the transport company GTT. With the handover of the last batch of vehicles, a logistically and diplomatically challenging process that lasted over a year comes to an end. The project is seen as an example of international cooperation to restore urban mobility in one of the communities most affected by the war in Ukraine.
As part of the initiative, a total of 40 buses and a comprehensive stock of spare parts and technical components were delivered. These resources are crucial for the maintenance of the vehicle fleet and the assurance of transport connections in Kharkiv. The project began in the summer of 2025 and gained momentum at the end of August of the same year when the first five buses were shipped. Since then, the initiative has continued through coordinated and staggered deliveries, made possible by the support of the authorities of both countries, as well as the availability of the vehicles and the direct engagement of GTT’s technical staff.
Continuation of cooperation
However, the successful implementation of this phase does not mark the end of solidarity between Turin and Kharkiv. For the second phase of the project, an additional 15 buses are already planned, with delivery scheduled for the end of September 2026. This additional batch of vehicles aims to further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two cities and ensure structured support for the mobility of Ukrainian citizens.
