Jun 22, 2026 at 8:00 AMElísa Dögg Moraitis Björnsdóttir will become the new Executive Vice President of Eimskip’s domestic operations division in Iceland. This division includes land transport, distribution centers, warehousing, and cold storage operations, as well as facility management, employing around 400 staff at 16 locations across the country.
The new executive brings extensive experience from her previous role at Eimskip. Since 2006, she has been with the subsidiary TVG-Zimsen, where she began her career as a sales representative. From 2010 to 2013, she led the specialized solutions department in the sea freight sector and served as the manager for sea and air freight from 2013 to 2020. Since 2020, she has held the position of managing director of TVG-Zimsen.
Experience and commitment in the industry
In addition to her role at Eimskip, Björnsdóttir is the chair of the board of the North Atlantic Agency, a platform for port agencies and logistics companies in the North Atlantic. She is also a board member of Eimskip Greenland and Gára ehf., both subsidiaries of Eimskip.
Björnsdóttir holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Iceland and a master’s degree in economics with a focus on finance and econometrics from the University of Sydney in Australia.
In a statement, Vilhelm Már Thorsteinsson, CEO of Eimskip, said: „I am pleased that Elísa has applied for the role of Executive Vice President of the domestic division. Her knowledge and experience with the company’s operations will be crucial in building on a solid foundation and further developing the division.“ Thorsteinsson emphasized the need to continue enhancing the division’s core strengths, such as efficient and cost-effective operations.
Björnsdóttir herself stated: „I look forward to taking on this new role and am grateful for the trust placed in me. Eimskip has strong operations and outstanding employees across the country. It will be both enriching and exciting to work on various projects within Eimskip’s domestic operations and gain an even deeper understanding of the business.“ She plans to build on the solid foundation that has already been established and to further strengthen the areas of sales and customer service.
Elísa Dögg Moraitis Björnsdóttir will take over the position from the current Executive Vice President, Edda Rut Björnsdóttir, in the coming weeks, who will support her during the transition period.
