Capital Link launches “Maritime Intelligence Hub”
May 28, 2026 at 9:07 AMGlasgow Prestwick Airport has introduced a new direct cargo flight to Shanghai Pudong International Airport to expand its connections to China. This new route is operated by Air China Cargo, which is shifting three of its four weekly flights from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport to Shanghai. This diversifies the existing connection to Prestwick and provides Scottish exporters access to one of the most significant cargo hubs in Asia.
According to Ian Forgie, the Managing Director of Glasgow Prestwick Airport, Shanghai represents an important global cargo hub. The new connection allows customers to utilize a greater range of transportation options within China and supports the growing e-commerce business between the United Kingdom and China. Forgie emphasizes that the route is particularly significant for Scottish exporters transporting high-quality seafood and other time-sensitive goods to Asia.
The introduction of the new route follows a year in which cargo volumes at Glasgow Prestwick Airport have steadily increased.
