Americold has expanded its collaboration with PLUS, a supermarket cooperative in the Netherlands. This partnership aims to consolidate PLUS’s frozen logistics operations and create an integrated cold chain with nationwide coverage. PLUS operates around 440 stores and has decided to centralize the storage, handling, and distribution of its frozen product range through the strategically located distribution center in Barneveld.
The agreement reflects PLUS’s strategy to enhance efficiency and improve service quality to better support the national supermarket network. The transition will occur gradually to ensure a smooth integration of the new logistics processes. Hans Danhof, Supply Chain Director at PLUS, stated: “By centralizing our frozen goods flow, we are better aligning our logistics with our store network and continuously working to optimize service for our stores.”
Supply chain optimization
Americold’s distribution center in Barneveld supports high-throughput, temperature-controlled distribution, enabling PLUS to achieve efficient storage, inventory management, and order fulfillment. This helps ensure product integrity and reliable execution from supplier to store. Andrew Mates, Managing Director of Americold Europe, emphasized: “We are proud to support PLUS in this strategic transition and act as a vital link in their supply chain.”
Americold brings extensive retail operation experience and utilizes a specially developed operational platform to enhance efficiency across PLUS’s more than 400 stores. Mates added that the agreement is a clear indication of Americold’s commitment to operational excellence and that together with PLUS, they ensure that store shelves are well-stocked every day.
