May 15, 2026 at 12:57 PMWah Kwong NatPower Holdings has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chu Kong Shipping Enterprises (CKS). CKS is a subsidiary of Guangdong Provincial Port & Shipping Group Company Limited. The two companies have agreed to establish a cooperative framework based on mutual benefits, complementary strengths, and joint development. The aim is to advance the electrification of water transport in Hong Kong. The MoU lays the foundation for further exchange and business opportunities.
Focus on Environmentally Friendly Technologies
As part of the MoU, the two parties will engage in in-depth discussions oriented towards the low-carbon transformation of the shipping industry. Key areas include the construction of electric vessels, technological innovations, and the establishment of charging and battery swapping networks at terminals in Guangdong and Hong Kong. Additionally, both sides aim to exchange industry information and jointly explore relevant policy and technical developments.
Vincent Ni, the General Manager of Wah Kwong NatPower, emphasized the need to establish industry-wide cooperation mechanisms to translate concepts of low-carbon transformation into tangible results. He stated that the electrification of water transport is a systemic endeavor that requires close coordination along the entire value chain. The collaboration with CKS reflects a shared vision for the development of water transport electrification in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. Ni expressed the expectation that Wah Kwong NatPower can engage in pragmatic discussions and identify application-oriented cooperation opportunities to contribute to the sustainable development of the industry.
The shipping industry is undergoing an accelerated phase of green and low-carbon transformation. The Greater Bay Area of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao, as a significant center for maritime innovation, promotes the adoption of electric vessels and the expansion of the necessary infrastructure.
At the same time, a connected ecosystem for green energy is being established in the region, which expands coastal charging infrastructure and advances the standardization of charging and battery swapping systems. This coordinated approach is crucial for enabling seamless cross-border operations and overcoming key challenges in energy supply.
Wah Kwong NatPower focuses on promoting the energy transition in the global shipping industry. The company actively develops solutions for clean energy, shore power, and related infrastructures by combining the expertise of Wah Kwong Maritime Transport Holdings Limited and NatPower Marine.
CKS brings extensive operational capabilities and significant experience in port logistics and water transport. The signing of the MoU represents a significant advancement in the electrification of shipping and combines the complementary strengths of both organizations.
