Dnata invests in WSI cargo terminal
Apr 23, 2026 at 11:42 AMThe Sumitomo Corporation, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha are jointly launching a demonstration project to supply ships with ammonia fuel in Singapore. The initiative has been selected under a funding programme by the Japanese ministry of the economy, trade and industry and aims to establish the foundation for the future use of ammonia as a maritime fuel.
The project will test a supply method using ship-to-ship procedures for the first time. The goal is to develop safety standards and define operational processes.
Ammonia is considered a potential lower-emission energy carrier; however, its toxic properties impose high demands on technology and safety.
Singapore, as the world’s largest bunkering port, provides suitable conditions for such tests. In addition to feasibility studies, environmental and safety aspects are in focus. The participating companies aim to contribute to the decarbonisation of shipping and lay the groundwork for commercial applications.
