Apr 9, 2026 at 11:41 AMThe Maritime Authority of Jamaica considers paper-based processes in maritime operations to be outdated. Obsolete procedures increasingly present risks for operations and safety and should therefore be replaced by digital solutions.
Operators are expected to demonstrate the use of digital systems, cybersecurity, and training measures in their daily activities. Information should be available at all times and supported by stable connections via mobile and satellite networks.
At the same time, the importance of IT security is growing. With increasing connectivity, vulnerability to digital attacks rises, making the protection of systems, vessels and crews a greater focus.
Sustainability remains an equally central issue. The transition to alternative fuels affects the design and operation of vessels, while emission reduction and waste avoidance are increasingly taken into account.
In addition to technology, the qualification of employees is considered crucial for adapting to the new requirements.
