Apr 9, 2026 at 8:49 AMDurite, a provider of safety solutions for commercial vehicles, has urged fleet operators, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), and body builders to prepare for potential changes to UK road safety laws. This comes in light of a recent consultation by the UK Department for Transport (DfT), which aims to introduce new safety technologies under the type approval framework in the UK, as reported by Durite.
Expansion of safety requirements
According to the company, the department is currently reviewing proposals for the implementation of up to 18 safety technologies that align with European safety regulations. These regulations, known as GSR2, include a catalog of requirements aimed at enhancing vehicle safety. Key aspects include improved visibility for drivers, collision avoidance systems, lane departure warnings, intelligent speed assistance, and technologies for monitoring driving behavior.
GSR2 applies in the EU to various vehicles, including cars, vans, buses, and heavy commercial vehicles. Should the UK implement similar requirements, Durite states that N2 and N3 trucks would also be required to meet the new standards for visibility and safety systems.
