AD Ports Group achieves record revenue
Mar 31, 2026 at 8:54 AMThe Netherlands will introduce a truck toll on July 1, 2026, which will apply to both domestic and foreign trucks. From this date, truck owners will have to pay per kilometer driven. This regulation affects nearly all highways as well as some roads at the provincial and municipal levels. The introduction of the toll is part of the replacement of the Eurovignette, which will expire on that day, as recently announced by the independent administrative body of the Dutch government, RDW.
Details of the toll regulation
The toll obligation applies to trucks in categories N2 and N3 that have a permissible total weight of more than 3,500 kg. To pay the toll, vehicles must be equipped with an On-Board Unit (OBU) that records the distance traveled.
Truck owners must enter into a contract with a provider of On-Board Units to obtain an OBU. The service provider supplies the necessary equipment and handles the processing of toll payments. It is important that the OBU is activated throughout the entire journey in the Netherlands, as the purchase of single tickets for specific routes is not possible.
