Pilot project for intelligent freight transport in Tennessee
Mar 30, 2026 at 10:09 AMThe past weekend marked the start of Lufthansa Cargo’s new summer flight schedule, which is focused on providing flexible and reliable transport solutions for customers. The airline relies on its long-haul freighter fleet, consisting of 18 Boeing 777Fs, operating worldwide. In total, Lufthansa Cargo’s customers will have access to 87 flights per week to up to 35 international destinations in the coming months. Notably, the significance of the Asian market is highlighted, with up to 48 weekly connections to 17 destinations.
Expansion of Connections to Asia and America
As part of the new flight schedule, the trans-Pacific route from Ho Chi Minh City via Shanghai to Los Angeles will be increased by one additional frequency to two flights per week. Lufthansa Cargo is the only provider offering main deck capacity on the route from Vietnam to China. Additionally, starting in May, Delhi will be re-integrated into the network with a weekly connection to serve the Indian market with a total of six flights per week. The American market will be served by 33 weekly connections to eleven destinations in North America and four destinations in South America. Here too, the frequency to Toronto (YYZ) will be increased.
The four short- and medium-haul freighters of the A321F type have been serving Rome (FCO) and Algiers (ALG) once a week since February. Thus, the summer flight schedule offers 33 connections within Europe and to Africa, providing fast transport options via the hubs in Frankfurt and Munich. Lufthansa Cargo will be supported in the future by a deepened collaboration with SWISS WorldCargo, facilitating access to a comprehensive network within Europe.
Integration of Consolidation Capacities and Network Expansion
Lufthansa Cargo’s customers also benefit from the consolidation capacities within the Lufthansa Group. With the new summer flight schedule, Lufthansa City Airlines will be included in the belly portfolio, allowing for a quicker response to changing booking situations. Furthermore, some long-haul connections from Lufthansa Airlines will be expanded from Frankfurt in the summer. This includes five weekly flights to St. Louis and Cape Town, as well as daily connections to Nairobi. Minneapolis will be served three times a week starting in April.
Additionally, ITA Airways is returning with two daily connections to London Heathrow, linking the UK with the new hub in Rome. Brussels Airlines will offer two flights per week to Kilimanjaro International Airport starting in June and will increase connections to Freetown to six per week. Discover Airlines will launch year-round service to the Seychelles and increase flights to Las Vegas to five per week. Austrian Airlines is also enhancing its offerings to the USA with daily flights to Los Angeles and Tokyo-Narita.
Ashwin Bhat, CEO of Lufthansa Cargo, emphasizes the advantages of the new flight schedule: “Our soon-to-be six hubs in Europe enable one of the densest networks in our industry on the continent. Together with our own freighter fleet and the consolidation capacities within the Lufthansa Group, this not only means enormous flexibility for our customers but also reliability and even higher speed in the transport of shipments.”
The summer flight schedule for 2026 has been in effect since March 29, 2026. In addition to its own freighter offerings, Lufthansa Cargo also markets the consolidation capacities of up to 7,500 flights per week to over 350 destinations from Lufthansa Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Discover Airlines, ITA Airways, Lufthansa City Airlines, and SunExpress.
